Deepavali or Diwali is one of the most awaited festivals by Indians. This celebration just lights up everything – your home and your life!Diwali definitely has a special aura. There is tremendous joy in making sweets, savories and in decorating your home during Diwali 🙂
Another key factor about Deepavali – apart from lights and firecrackers, are sweets and snacks!
Today’s recipe is one such quick snack which I learned from my Mom (Of course!). We call this Kara Kaddi or Spicy Sev. I am sure you will enjoy the crunch and the flavor of ajwain in this munchie!
Here is the recipe for Kara Kaddi / Spicy Sev.
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10-12 minutes
Makes – ~200 gms
Gram Flour – 1 cup
Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Ajwain Seeds – 1 tsp
Salt – 1 tsp or as per taste
Water – ~1/2 cup or less
Oil – 1 tbsp + for deep frying
In a mixing bowl, sieve the gram flour, add red chilli powder, ajwain seeds, and salt.
Add water at intervals to form a soft pliable dough.
Next, add oil and knead for 2-3 minutes.
Fill the dough in the murukku maker with the sev ring or mould.
In a deep frying pan, heat oil.
Press the dough into the oil and fry till golden brown.
Drain it on a paper towel.
You can crush and store them in an airtight container.
Enjoy with a hot cup of tea 🙂
