Kara Kaddi/Spicy Sev

Deepavali or Diwali is one of the most awaited festivals by Indians. This celebration just lights up everything – your home and your life!Diwali definitely has a special aura. There is  tremendous joy in making sweets, savories and in decorating your home during Diwali 🙂

Another key factor about Deepavali – apart from lights and firecrackers, are sweets and snacks!

Today’s recipe is one such quick snack which I learned from my Mom (Of course!). We call this Kara Kaddi or Spicy Sev. I am sure you will enjoy the crunch and the flavor of ajwain in this munchie!

Here is the recipe for Kara Kaddi / Spicy Sev.

RECIPE:

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 10-12 minutes

Makes – ~200 gms

INGREDIENTS:

Gram Flour – 1 cup

Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp

Ajwain Seeds – 1 tsp

Salt – 1 tsp or as per taste

Water – ~1/2 cup or less

Oil – 1 tbsp + for deep frying

METHOD:

In a mixing bowl, sieve the gram flour, add red chilli powder, ajwain seeds, and salt.

Mix well.

Add water at intervals to form a soft pliable dough.

Next, add oil and knead for 2-3 minutes.

Fill the dough in the murukku maker with the sev ring or mould.

In a deep frying pan, heat oil.

Press the dough into the oil and fry till golden brown.

Drain it on a paper towel.

You can crush and store them in an airtight container.

Enjoy with a hot cup of tea 🙂
