Mangalore Buns

Wondering what to make with over ripe bananas? Here is a recipe that makes the best use of over ripe bananas 🙂

Mangalore Buns – as the name suggests, this is a cuisine from the coastal Karnataka region. You go to any restaurant in Mangalore and ask for buns, you will not be disappointed with the flavour 🙂

What more? The original recipe of Mangalore buns is using all purpose or maida but the below recipe is made using wheat flour. So, taste bhi health bhi 😛

Without further ado, here is the recipe for  Mangalore Buns / Banana Buns 🙂

INGREDIENTS:

Ripe Bananas – 3 (Big ones)

Wheat Flour – 4 cups

Yogurt / curd – 1 cup

Sugar – 1 cups

Salt – 1/2 tsp

Baking soda – a pinch

METHOD:

Puree the banana and sugar together.

In a large mixing bowl, add the pureed banana – sugar mix.

Add the wheat flour, curd, baking soda and salt.

Mix together into a soft pliable dough similar to the chapathi dough.

P.S: Adjust the wheat flour quantity to attain the dough consistency.

Cover it with an aluminium foil and set aside for 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a deep fry pan. Take small ball sized dough and roll it into the size of the puri but a tad bit thicker than the puris.

Deep fry till it fluffs up and turns golden brown in color on both sides.

Serve hot with some coconut chutney or ketchup or any pickle or relish it as it is with a hot cup of coffee.
