Mangalore Buns – as the name suggests, this is a cuisine from the coastal Karnataka region. You go to any restaurant in Mangalore and ask for buns, you will not be disappointed with the flavour 🙂
What more? The original recipe of Mangalore buns is using all purpose or maida but the below recipe is made using wheat flour. So, taste bhi health bhi 😛
Without further ado, here is the recipe for Mangalore Buns / Banana Buns 🙂
Ripe Bananas – 3 (Big ones)
Wheat Flour – 4 cups
Yogurt / curd – 1 cup
Sugar – 1 cups
Salt – 1/2 tsp
Baking soda – a pinch
Puree the banana and sugar together.
In a large mixing bowl, add the pureed banana – sugar mix.
Add the wheat flour, curd, baking soda and salt.
Mix together into a soft pliable dough similar to the chapathi dough.
P.S: Adjust the wheat flour quantity to attain the dough consistency.
Cover it with an aluminium foil and set aside for 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep fry pan. Take small ball sized dough and roll it into the size of the puri but a tad bit thicker than the puris.
Deep fry till it fluffs up and turns golden brown in color on both sides.
Serve hot with some coconut chutney or ketchup or any pickle or relish it as it is with a hot cup of coffee.

4 cups flour seems like a lot. How many buns did you get?
Yes it is a lot 🙂 it suffices for about 5-7 people ! You can reduce the banana quantity which in turn reduces the flour quantity. Hope this helps 🙂
