Lemons – 8 to 10 (medium sized)

Green Chillies – 8 (or more as per spice level)

Salt – as per taste

For Tempering:

Coconut oil / cooking oil – 6 tbsp

Cumin Seeds / jeera – 1 tbsp

Dry red chillies – 3 nos

Asafoetida (coarse powdered one) – 1 tsp

In an air tight glass container, add the chopped lemons and salt. Cover and let it soak for about 2 days.

After 2 days when the lemons are soaked in salt water well, grind them coarsely along with green chillies.

In a deep bottomed pan, heat the 6 tbsp oil, jeera, dry chillies and asafoetida. (Make sure you cook on a medium heat/flame)

Once the tempering is done, add the ground coarse paste of lemon and green chillies.

Mix well and keep stirring till the color of the mixture changes and it attains a paste consistency. The end result should be orangish red in color.

Your Lemon thokku is ready to be served 🙂 Yummy ! Tangy ! and Mouthwatering ! 🙂

Once done, allow to cool and store in an air tight container.

You can eat this thokku with plain rice / yogurt rice or any other rice items 🙂

  1. Do you remove the salt water after two days before tempering?
Also how many days it stays good? Do i have to refrigerate it?
