Churmuri – Just the mention of this snack / street food can make your mouth water. Churmuri is a ‘no cook’ snack prepared using puffed rice, onions,tomatoes and spice powders 🙂 Absolutely simple but simply delicious 🙂
Today as I am writing this, I am flooded with memories 🙂 I have had the best of time bonding with friends, sister and cousins eating churmuri. Unforgettable after college hangout sessions at the famous ‘Ballal circle churmuri’ almost everyday 🙂 Oh boy! What wonderful days and memories :)Back in Mysore, we would run to the street vendor whenever we craved for Churmuri.
For the love of churmuri – I end up making this at home every now and then since I do not have any other option to fulfil my cravings. It is no doubt tasty but it somehow doesn’t match the ones ‘street food uncle’ makes 🙂
Here is my version of the famous Churmuri 🙂
INGREDIENTS:
Puffed rice – 3 cups
Onions – 1 small or 1/2 big – finely chopped
Tomatoes – 1 – finely chopped
Carrot – 1 – shredded
Red chili powder – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Green chillies – 4
Coriander leaves – few
Lemon – juice of half lemon
Oil – 1 tsp
Salt – as per taste
METHOD:
In a mixer, make a paste of the green chillies with few coriander leaves by adding little water. Keep it aside .
Meanwhile chop the onions, tomatoes and carrots. Keep them ready.
In a mixing bowl, add the onions,carrots, and tomatoes. Mix well.
Now add the chili powder, turmeric powder , ground Chilli paste and salt.
Also add 1 tsp of cooking oil. Mix everything well before squeezing in the juice of half lime.
Now add lime juice. Mix well.
At the end add the puffed rice required for the above masala and give it a good stir / mix.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Churmuri is ready to be served – as is or with a cup of coffee / tea 🙂
