Rava Guliyappa

The past week has been really crazy! Health has been under the weather for a while not giving me a chance to prep myself for the upcoming week.  Yes, it is that time of the year when parents-in-law or parents visit you 🙂 The environment at home is no less than a celebration. I am meeting my in-laws after almost 3 years.

With the crazy week ahead, I have not been able to grind Idli/Dosa batter. I have been relying on instant breakfast options.

One such delicious, quick and healthy Instant breakfast is – Rava Guliyappa or Rava Paddu 🙂

Here is the recipe for the same:

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 15-20 minutes

Makes: 18-20 pieces

INGREDIENTS:

  • Upma Rava or Sooji – roasted – 1 cup
  • Onions – 1
  • Ginger – 1 inch
  • Coriander leaves – few
  • Curd or Yogurt – 1 cup
  • Water – ~2 cups
  • Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Oil – for shallow fry

METHOD:

In a mixing bowl, add the sooji, onions, ginger and coriander leaves. Mix well.

Add curd/yogurt and 1 cup water. Mix well.

Adjust the consistency of the batter by adding more water. Mix well.

Now add the asafoetida and salt. Mix well.

Make sure the batter consistency is thicker than the dosa batter but not as thick as the idli batter.

Once the mixture is ready, heat the ebelskiver pan or the appe pan.

Add drops of oil into each appe mold.

Pour the batter into each mold. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes on the medium-hi flame.

Flip the appes and cook the other side till done.

Once done, serve hot with chutney or sambar.

Enjoy!
